wild coast
A former homeland, the Transkei Wild Coast stretches about 280km from the Kei River in the South, to the Mtamvuna River in the North. Rolling hills, thick forests, remote villages, jagged cliffs and empty beaches characterize the area. As does the hospitality and openness of the local Xhosa people. However during apartheid, the Transkei was overlooked and targeted for neglect. The underdevelopment has left a legacy of poor infrastructure, bad roads, substandard education and services that are either basic or non-existent.
