This project aims to transform the Zithulele and Lubanzi village, by removing alien vegetation and planting indigenous trees. In doing so we help to create pride in ones home, an aesthetic surrounding which encourages tourism and therefore increases jobs. There have been a number of interesting studies about the relationship between "greening" an area and the decrease crime. Trees also help as wind breaks, improve eco systems and reduce dust.
Alein plants are slowly taking over the area to the detrement of indigeonous vegitation. Two of the most invasive alien plants in our area are Inkberry (Cestrum laevigatum) and Lantana (Lantana Camara), both of which are a Category 1 plants. Through volunteers and the Eco Club, we have been clearing a demarcated area in Lubanzi, with specific focus on waterways. It is a labor intensive, continuous and costly process.
The Village Greening program works hand in hand with the community nursery.
